Vladimir Putin

Russian President

Putin studied law at the Saint Petersburg State University, graduating in 1975. Putin was a KGB foreign intelligence officer for 16 years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring in 1991.

"So a person is elected, he comes with his ideas. Then people with briefcases come to visit him, well dressed, in dark suits, kind of like mine. Except instead of a red tie it’s black or navy. And then they explain what to do, and the whole rhetoric changes, you see? This happens from one administration to the next.".

Julie Payette

Former Canadian astronaut Julie Payette and next Governor General

Payette is the 29th person to hold the position, and the fourth female to be the monarch's representative in Canada.

Payette, 53, will have name recognition for Canadians of a certain age, remembering her as the first Canadian female to board the International Space Station in 1999. She went on a second space flight in 2009. She retired from the Canadian Space Agency in 2013, and became the chief operating officer of the Montreal Science Centre, a position she left just last year.

General U Thant

Former UN Secretary.  3rd Secretary General of the United nations in office from 30th November 1961 to 31st December 1971.  During his tenure as Secretary-General, Thant followed UFO reports with some interest; in 1967, he arranged for American atmospheric physicist James E. McDonald to speak before the UN's Outer Space Affairs Group regarding UFOs.

"I consider that UFOs are the most important problem facing the United Nations next to the war in Vietnam."

William Binney

He worked for the agency for more than thirty years, and was the leading code-breaker against the Soviet Union during the Cold War. He’s had quite the run, starting in 2002 when he let the public know of a system ( ‘trailblazer’) intended to analyze data carried on communication networks (like the internet). He exposed the agencies eavesdropping program and has faced harassment from the FBI, NSA and more. He has been in and out of the court room ever since he decided to resign and blow the whistle.Highest ranking NSA whistle blower of all time mentions the UFO question. Just as Edward Snowden made huge headlines (and still is) all over the world, William Binney did the same in 2001 when he resigned from the National Security Agency (NSA) after 9/11 and blew the lid on an NSA mass surveillance programme.

"We selectively ignore basic facts. What I mean by a basic fact is something that’s just there that needs to be addressed, even if they can’t explain it they should have said we can’t explain this but it’s there so they at least recognize that this basic fact existed. My problem is, just like the UFO thing, unless they start addressing these kinds of things, peoples observations or basic measurements or factual evidence that simply exists, unless they start addressing them there’s always going to be questions, especially now with the government, how much trust do you have with this government? They’ve been spying, putting whistle blowers in jail, torturing, and giving immunity to people who commit these kinds of crimes, how much trust can you put in a government like that? When you selectively ignore these kids of thing.".

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov

former president of the Russian republic of Kalmykia

During his Kalmykia presidency, Ilyumzhinov at a 2006 meeting in Moscow’s Kremlin with Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed he was abducted by extraterrestrials. on an evening in September 1997, ETs wearing yellow spacesuits spirited him out of his Moscow home and took him to their spaceship.

"They came in a flying saucer, picked me up, and I spent a whole day in outer space."
"I was taken [from] my apartment in Moscow to this spaceship, and we went to some star and after that, I asked them, Please bring me back. They are like people, like us. They have the same mind and the same vision. I talked with them and I understand that we are not alone in this whole world we are not unique".
"I’m not a crazy man, but after I gave the first interview to Radio Freedom in Russia, thousands not hundreds thousands of people wrote me letters and called on the phone, saying, ‘Oh, Kirsan, you are a politician and you are not afraid to talk about it?"
"The ship was absolutely enormous. One of its chambers was the size of a large football pitch. We landed on one of the planets and picked up some piece of equipment. They told me everything in detail".
"I asked them to take me back to Earth as quickly as possible, because in two days I had to conduct Youth Government Week. And then they brought me back and everything was normal again".

President Jimmy Carter

President of the United States of America. Former President Jimmy Carter had a dramatic UFO experience when he was running for president. On his way to a two-day religious conference Carter saw a UFO. He and his entourage were so disturbed by the experience that they spent the next two days discussing UFOs and extraterrestrials instead of the planned conference agenda.

"If I become President, I'll make every piece of information this country has about UFO sightings available to the public and scientists. I am convinced that UFOs exist because I have seen one."

"It was the darndest thing I've ever seen," said Carter. "It was big, it was very bright, it changed colours and it was about the size of the moon. We watched it for ten minutes, but none of us could figure out what it was. One thing's for sure, I'll never make fun of people who say they've seen unidentified flying objects in the sky."

Winston Churchill

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, KG, OM, CH, TD, PC, DL, FRS, RA was a British statesman who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. Churchill was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer (as Winston S. Churchill), and an artist. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature, and was the first person to be made an honorary citizen of the United States.

Winston Churchill ordered a UFO sighting be kept secret to prevent "mass panic".

"This event should be immediately classified since it would create mass panic amongst the general public and destroy one's belief in the Church."

He asked his air minister Lord Cherwell to investigate in 1952.

"Certainly these sightings have been going on for many, many years... er... Lots of reliable witnesses; many military personnel sighting them."

"RAF pilots had fired at UFOs on several occasions – but failed to bring them down." He added: "We know of cases where the order has been given to shoot down – with little effect to the UFO. The rules of engagement were drawn up after dozens of close encounters with suspect craft in British airspace. RAF attacks on UFOs were not automatic but happen when something in our airspace is deemed to be a threat."

He explained:

"In the case of UFOs, whether the object is causing a threat is very much a (pilot's) judgment call. The "shoot down" orders had been issued under the highly-classified directive since the beginning of the 1980s." He believes a pattern has emerged in incidents already publicized in the UK and abroad. When a UFO is thought to be threatening a country's airspace, the drastic action has been taken. He said: "There was a faction in the MoD who said "We want to shoot down a UFO and that will resolve the issue one way or another."

"UFOs had been tracked on radar, leading to jets being scrambled. Strong evidence emerged suggesting the presence of structured craft capable of speeds and manoeuvres beyond the capability of even the most advanced prototype craft operated by the Royal Air Force or the United States Air Force."

"On the basis of my official research and investigation into UFO sightings and reports of alien contact, I am personally convinced that intelligent extraterrestrial are visiting Earth. I say this on the basis of the data available to me at the Ministry of Defence, both in terms of the historic records and the several hundred new cases that I investigated each year."

"There was a hard core of cases that defied any conventional explanation and involved craft capable of speeds and manoeuvres beyond the capabilities of our own technology. I was particularly interested in UFO sightings that could be correlated by radar and in reports where the witnesses were military personnel; such cases were directly responsible for my gradual conversion from sceptic to believer."

"There have been dog fights between Uk military pilots and UFO's. We need to take the threat seriously."

President Harry S. Truman

Harry S. Truman was the 33rd President of the United States (1945–53).

Photo of Harry Truman

Truman's presidency was a turning point in foreign affairs, as the United States engaged in an internationalist foreign policy and renounced isolationism. Truman helped found the United Nations in 1945.

President Harry Truman formed the highly secret group (code named MJ–12) which stood for Majestic–12. The sole purpose of this group was to investigate UFOs and report their findings to the president. Majestic-12 was established by a special executive order of President Truman on September 24, 1947, three months after the crash at Roswell, New Mexico.

A briefing document describing the group for incoming president Dwight Eisenhower was leaked and is now available to almost anyone. I have included it in the Documents section of this website. The government denies the existence of such a group or document. The authenticity of the document cannot be proven, but the reality and the purpose of MJ–12 has been confirmed with many high-level sources over the years.

Richard Russell

One of the most powerful U.S. senators in modern history actually eye-witnessed two UFO's while on a fact-finding trip through Russia in 1955, and the U.S. government kept the sightings a secret for more than three decades.

Photo of Richard Russell

In 1985, 12 Top Secret CIA, FBI, and Air Force reports were declassified. Those startling reports reveal that Senator Richard B. Russell, Jr. (D-GA), then chairman of the Armed Services Committee, was on a Soviet train when he spotted a disc-shaped craft taking off near the tracks. He hurriedly called his military aide and interpreter to the window and they saw the UFO, plus another one that appeared a minute later. The astonished trio reported the sightings to the U.S. Air Force as soon as they were out of Russia.

The Air Force Intelligence report says Russell and his two travelling companions spotted the UFOs on October 4, 1955, while travelling by rail across Russia's Transcaucasus region. "One disc ascended almost vertically, at a relatively slow speed, with its outer surface revolving slowly to the right, to an altitude of about 6000 feet, where its speed then increased sharply as it headed north," the report states. "The second flying disc was seen performing the same actions about one minute later. The take-off area was about 1–2 miles south of the rail line."

"The three observers were firmly convinced that they saw a genuine flying disc," says an Air Force Intelligence report, dated October 14, 1955, and classified TOP SECRET at the time. Senator Russell served 38 years in the Senate. He was its senior, and one of the most influential, senators at the time of his death in 1971. He was chairman of the Armed Services Committee from 1951 to 1969, and unsuccessfully sought the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1952. The mind-boggling documents detailing his UFO encounter were made available by the Fund for UFO Research and its chairman, Dr. Bruce Maccabee. Several key documents were obtained by the group through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). "These long secret documents are of major importance because they show for the first time that one of the most powerful U.S. Senators witnessed and reported a UFO," said Dr. Maccabee.

Russell "saw the first flying disc ascend and pass over the train," and went "rushing in to get Mr Efron (Ruben Efron, his interpreter) and Col. Hathaway (Col. E. U. Hathaway, his aide) to see it," the report said. "Col. Hathaway stated that he got to the window with the Senator in time to see the first (UFO), while Mr. Efron said that he got only a short glimpse of the first. However, all three saw the second disc and all agreed that they saw the same round, disc-shaped craft as the first." The Air Force report was written by Lieut. Col. Thomas Ryan, who interviewed Senator Russell's companions in Prague, Czechoslovakia, on October 13, after they arrived there from Russia shortly after the sighting.

In his report, Col. Ryan called the sightings "an eyewitness account of the ascent and flight of an unconventional craft by three highly reliable United States observers. He added that Col. Hathaway led off his account of the sightings by saying: "I doubt if you're going to believe this, but we all saw it. Senator Russell was the first to see this flying disc we've been told for years that there isn't such a thing, but all of us saw it."

CIA documents show that the agency later interviewed the three eyewitnesses in the Russell party, and also a fourth person, unidentified in the reports, who had seen the UFO's. An eyewitness, whose name was blacked out on the CIA report prior to its declassification said one of the UFO's "had a slight dome on top" and also a "white light on top." The edge of the disc was glowing pinkish–white, he added. The UFO rose "vertically with the glow moving slowly around the perimeter in a clockwise direction, giving the appearance of a pinwheel."

Interpreter Ruben Efron told the CIA that visibility was excellent. As one UFO approached the train, he said, "the object gave the impression of gliding. No noise was heard and no exhaust was heard, and no exhaust glow or trail was seen by me." After the encounter, Senator Russell told the men with him: "We saw a flying disc. I wanted you boys to see it so that I would have witnesses," according to the CIA documents. And an FBI memo, dated November 4, 1955, also discusses the sighting, and admitted Col. Hathaway's testimony "would support existence of a flying disc" Dr. Maccabee, of the Fund for UFO Research, believes that Senator Russell and his group never publicly revealed their incredible sightings "because they were no doubt advised not to talk. These documents provide startling new evidence that UFOs exist."

Mr. Tom Towers, in his January 20, 1957, column, "Aviation News," for the Los Angeles, CA, Examiner, printed the contents of a letter from Senator Russell, which was in response to a request for information about the sightings in Russia. Mr. Towers had originally contacted Senator Russell's office by letter with the request that he be given permission to "break" the story. The Senator wrote: "Permit me to acknowledge your letters relative to reports that have come to you regarding aerial objects seen in Europe last year. I received your letter, but I have discussed this matter with the affected agencies of the government, and they are of the opinion that it is not wise to publicize this matter at this time. I regret very much that I am unable to be of assistance to you." The letter was dated 17 January, 1956.

J. Edgar Hoover UFO Memo to Clyde Tolson of July 15, 1947

During his service as the FBI director J. Edgar Hoover was fully aware that US Army was in possession of retrieved, crashed flying discs. There was a moment in late 40's when FBI seriously considered launching their own investigation into the UFO phenomenon. Among the top FBI officials opinions were divided whether to embark on such challenge or not, as many of the recorded disc finds had proven to be nothing but "pranks." In their exchange of opinions from July 15, 1947, both J. Edgar Hoover and Clyde Tolson (FBI Associate Director 1930-1972) agreed the FBI should do it, however Hoover conditioned the launch of the investigation on securing US Army's permission for the FBI to access the actual discs. These are his actual words:

"I would do it [study UFOs], but before agreeing to do it, we must insist upon full access to discs recovered. For instance in the L.A. case, the Army grabbed it and would not let us have it for cursory examination."

This note proves that already back in the 40's, at the very outset of the entire UFO phenomenon, there was quite a friction between government agencies and the Army over access to recovered flying discs. The race for the front seat in the elite club of the privy to the secrets of alien technology had begun.

"Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of ploughshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defence; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defence establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations.

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence – economic, political, even spiritual – is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defence with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.

In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. To those who remain sceptical about the value of UFO research, here are some suggestions:

Read the serious and relevant UFO literature. Learn about the UFO investigators and research organizations. Know the facts behind the phenomenon. Study the data and do not confuse facts with speculation. Examine the research methods and arguments of sceptics.

Remember that honest and serious scepticism requires an understanding of the data, relevant scientific and social research, and the world-wide history of the UFO mystery."
